Pass-through or non-pass-through RJ45 connectors, which one would you recommend?

I’m planning to install a router and need to purchase some RJ45 connectors. After researching, I’ve found both pass-through RJ45 connectors and non-pass-through RJ45 connectors. What’s the difference between these two types, and which one would you recommend?

The head of a pass-through RJ45 connector has small holes, so you can thread the Ethernet cable through the connector during the operation. On the other hand, the head of a non-pass-through RJ45 connector is completely closed. Personally, I recommend using a pass-through RJ45 connector because it’s much easier to work with.

Non-pass-through connectors are standard ones used to terminate Ethernet cables. Unlike standard RJ45 connectors, pass-through RJ45 connectors allow Ethernet cable wires to pass through and out of the whole body. So, you can easily make sure these wires are aligned and the color sequence is correct before crimping.
If you are a network beginner, we recommend choosing the pass-through connector. The pass-through connector is simpler to install and has a higher success rate. However, if you want to avoid oxidizing the cable as much as possible, we recommend you choose the Non-pass-through connector because the pass-through design causes the cable at the top of the plug to be exposed to the air, which makes it relatively easy for oxidization problems to occur.

pass through, it’s the easiest.

If you are new to this and only use it in the home I would recommend the pass-through one as it is easier to install and less likely to fail. I think the pass-through RJ45 connector is better suited for home use because it exposes the wires to the air which are more prone to oxidization and need to be replaced periodically.

For future proofing, non-pass-thru connectors are more suitable. But if you are a network beginner and don’t care about oxidization, pass-thru RJ45 connectors can be a great choice.

If you’re just starting out this operation, I recommend that you use pass-through connectors, as they are relatively easy to install. I am also a novice, I used it to make several network cables a few days ago, only because my tester was broken so the test showed that the production failed at that time. After replacing the tester showed that it was normal, and I actually made it successful!

Trust me, go with pass-thru connectors, non pass-thru connectors are so hard!

Thank you, everyone. In the end, I chose the pass-through one, and now my network is up and running.

easy but not good for long-term use.
