My precision screwdriver bits are not magnetic anymore. What should I do?

My precision screwdriver bits are not magnetic anymore. What should I do?I don’t want to waste money to buy a whole set separately for only a few bits, is there any other way to fix it?

If your precision screwdriver bits are no longer magnetic, there are a few steps you can try to make them magnetic again:

Use a magnet: Rub a strong magnet along the shaft of the screwdriver bit several times. This can sometimes transfer some magnetism to the bit and make it magnetic again.

Heat and cool method: Heat the tip of the screwdriver bit using a lighter or a flame for a few seconds, and then quickly cool it down by dipping it into cold water or using compressed air. Repeat this process a few times. Sometimes, the rapid heating and cooling can realign the magnetic domains in the bit and restore magnetism.

Purchase a magnetic bit holder: Instead of buying a whole new set of bits, you can purchase a magnetic bit holder. This is a small tool that holds the screwdriver bit and has a built-in magnet to make it magnetic. The bit holder can be attached to your existing screwdriver, allowing you to use non-magnetic bits without any wasted expenditure.

Remember that these methods may not work in all cases, but they are worth a try before buying new bits or a set.

  1. If you enjoy hands-on manufacturing, consider making your magnet charger. First, find a small fan that is no longer in use; many electrical devices have small fans for cooling. Then, remove the casing and keep the iron core inside, careful not to damage the copper wire on the core. Finally, find a corresponding 12-volt power source, apply power to the coil, place the screwdriver in the middle, and magnetize it within a few seconds.

  2. Magnetizing a magnet: Using the magnetization effect, magnetize a screwdriver and a permanent magnet together for a while. If you need to use it immediately, you can rub the interest in one direction a few times to magnetize it. This method can be used in the short term. Alternatively, find a small magnet and directly attach it to the screwdriver for use.

  3. Electromagnetic magnetizing: If you temporarily do not have a magnet on hand, you can also magnetize using a battery. The method is first to find a 1.5V battery, then wrap a coil around the screwdriver with a wire, and finally, connect the coil to the positive and negative poles of the battery to magnetize it for about a minute.

I suggest you try to use a magnetizer to enhance its magnetism.
